while adding dosa batter on the pan don’t add oil after you spread the batter then add oil around the dosa. always use non stick pan to get nice dosa. this dosa recipe is my most favorite break fast. i will usually serve this dosa with dosa chutney like besan chutney and other dosa chutney recipes are peanut chutney, chana dal chutney, coriander chutney, tomato chutney. Dosa is a very popular breakfast in South India. This time i am showing basic version of dosa. You can have this dosa as breakfast or snack. You can have dosa with any dosa chutney or with dal and with some nice gravies like drumstick kaju gravy, shahi mushroom gravy, dum aloo gravy.

  1. Wash and soak the urad dal & rice in water (add water until urad dal & rice is completely immersed) for overnight / at least 6 hrs.
  2. Now drain the water from the urad dal & rice completely and add this urad dal & rice in to mixy jar or grinder and grind it into fine thick paste (while grinding you can add ½ glass of water).
  3. Take the batter into bowl and adjust the consistency by adding water, now add salt and mix once.
  4. Ferment the dosa batter for few hours(12 hrs) .
  5. Heat a pan add 1½ laddle of dosa batter, spread the dosa batter from inner to  out side of the pan (spread evenly) with the help of large spoon/laddle.
  6. Now add oil around the borders of the dosa.
  7. Once the borders of the dosa got little golden color then flip the dosa to the other side.
  8. Now cook the  other side of the dosa too.
  9. Repeat the same procedure for remaining batter.
  10. You can have dosa with Ground nut chutney, Coconut chutney , Bombay chutney, Karam podi or with any dal.

  3. Salt – 2 ½ tbsp – 3 tbsp (as per your taste)
  4. Water

tips on dosa recipe:

  1. if you want you can soak the urad dal and rice for above 8 hours or over night (but soak at least for 7 hours).
  2. you can add this dosa batter in mixy or wet grinder, both the options works fine.
  3. add correct amount of salt, you can adjust the salt by tasting the batter.
  4. if you want more crispy then add little more quantity of rice (like 1/4th).
  5. always prepare dosa on non stick pan so that dosa won’t stick to the pan.
