We will soak oats and rice flakes in curd to get nice little sour taste. Added rice flour in recipe of oats uttappam to get nice texture to the oothappam. I have invented this recipe as I want to do something with oats, after tasted this oats oothappam it became one of our regular breakfast recipes like onion uttappam, sabudana oothappam, vermicelli uttappam.

In oats oothappam recipe added 1/4th cup of oats and ½ cup of rice flakes, you can increase or decrease either of the ingredients based on your taste. Add more quantity of onions so that uttappam will be yummy.oats uttappam | instant oats oothappam recipe

Serve hot oats uttappam with peanut chutney, almond chutney, tomato chutney, sambar or tomato pickle.

Oats uttappam ingredients (1 measurement cup = 250ml)

  • 1/4th cup of oats
  • ½ cup of rice flakes (use thin rice flakes)
  • 1 cup of rice flour
  • 1/4th cup of curd (if it requires add more curd)
  • 1 ½ tbsp. of salt
  • 1 tbsp of chili powder
  • 1 onion chopped into very fine pieces
  • Water
  • Oil

  1. To prepare oats uttappam, in a bowl add 1/4th cup of oats and ½ cup of rice flakes mix both nicely. Add curd and mix once again and soak them in curd for about 10 minutes.oats uttappam | instant oats oothappam recipe

  2. Now add 1 cup of rice flour, salt and chili powder and mix all the ingredients once again.oats uttappam | instant oats oothappam recipe
  3. Add water little by little and make into oothappa batter without any lumps. add onions and mix once again.

  4. Heat a dosa pan on stove, after pan got hot pour few drops of oil and spread that oil over the pan with the help of spoon or spatula.
  5. Pour the batter on pan with the large spoon at one place and spread evenly.

  6. Again, add the oil around the borders of the oothappam.
  7. Flip the other side after one side is cooked (if the border came little golden color then you can flip).

  8. After the other part of oothappam is cooked and remove from the pan and serve.

  9. Repeat the same procedure for the rest of the batter.
  10. Serving suggestion: serve hot oats uttappam with tomato chutney or onion tomato chutney or sambar or peanut chutney.
