i will serve this tomato chutney for rice or idly. the given measurments in the recipe perfectly suits for 3 people for lunch or dinner. use ripen bangalore tomatoes to get perfect tangy flavor to the chutney. i have used bangalore tomatoes in the tomato pachadi. i have used groundnuts and cashew nuts in the andhra tomato chutney, if you want you can use only groundnuts.

how to make andhra tomato chutney for rice

  1. Wash & chop the tomatoes into medium size pieces.
  2. Cut the coconut into small pieces.
  3. Heat a kadai add ghee, after ghee gets hot add ground nuts after ground nuts got little golden color add cashew nuts & fry for 1 min.
  4. Now add green/red chilies, channa dal , coriander seeds, cumin seeds & fry for 2 min.
  5. Now add ginger & garlic, coconut pieces, tomato pieces, tamarind, salt & fry for 2 min.
  6. Now add water and cook until tomato pieces gets little smashed texture.
  7. Blend the mixture into fine chutney after mixture gets cooled.
  8. Enjoy this awesome Tomato Chutney with rice/roti/idly/dosa/chapati.

Ingredients used in tomato chutney for dosa

  • Tomatoes – 3 medium  (i have used ripen tomatoes not very ripen)
  • fried ground nuts – 2 tablespoons
  • Coconut pieces – 15 medium pieces (fresh one not dried)
  • whole Cashew nuts – 10
  • Chana dal – 1 tablespoon
  • Tamarind – 2 inches
  • Coriander seeds – ½ teaspoon
  • Jeera – ½ teaspoon
  • Red chilies – 3 medium (as per your taste)
  • Salt – 1 teaspoon (as per your taste)
  • Ginger & Garlic – 1 inch and 6 pods
  • Ghee – 1 ½ teaspoon
  • Water

  1. to make tomato chutney for rice: wash and chop the tomatoes into medium size pieces.
  2. Cut the coconut into small pieces with knife.
  3. Heat a kadai add one and half teaspoon of ghee, after ghee gets hot add 2 teaspoons of ground nuts after ground nuts got little golden color add cashew nuts and fry for 1 minute.

  4. Now add green or red chilies, 1 teaspoon channa dal , 1/2 teaspoon coriander seeds, 1/2 teaspoon cumin seeds and fry for 2 minutes.
  5. Now add ginger and garlic, 15 medium coconut pieces, tomato pieces, tamarind, salt and cook for 3 minutes.
