  1. Tendli/dondakaya/ivy gourd/tondli/kovakkai – 15 – 20 medium size
  2. Onions – 3 medium
  3. Ground nuts – 4 tbsp
  4. Chana dal – 3 tbsp
  5. Tamarind – 4 inches
  6. Jaggery / sugar – ½ of small lemon size
  7. Jeera – ½ tbsp
  8. Coriander seeds – ½ tbsp
  9. Turmeric powder – ½ tbsp
  10. Salt – 3 tbsp (1 ½ tbsp for curry & 1 ½ tbsp for rasam) (as per your taste)
  11. Chilly powder – 3 tbsp (1 ½ tbsp for curry & 1 ½ tbsp for rasam) (as per your taste)
  12. Oil – 3 tbsp
  13. Water

  • Wash the tendli thoroughly.
  • Slit the tendli vertically into 4 slices.
  • Take a bowl add tendli, tamarind, turmeric powder, water & pressure cook them for 4 whistles.

  • Chop the onions into medium pieces.
  • Take a mixy jar add chana dal, cumin seeds, coriander seeds, salt, chilly powder, ground nuts, turmeric powder, onions, jaggery and make them into fine paste with the help of water.

  • Heat a mini pressure cooker or kadai, add oil then add above gravy, salt, chilly powder and fry it until oil oozes from its surrounding.

  • Separate some gravy & keep it aside for rasam.
  • Now add tendli pieces (take out from the water, don’t waste that water we will use it to prepare TENDLI RASAM ) and fry for few seconds.

Notes
If you prepare this curry in kadai then you need more quantity of water (more than ½ glass ).
You have to stir the curry for every 2-3 min until tendli pieces gets cooked.
Make sure while buying tendli is tender or not.
